This is a guest post from Cloe Simon. Cloe is a French Business student working with Blueprint, a signage company based in Sydney.
As a Project Leader, I am constantly looking for ways to get my messages to my key audiences in a way that captures their attention and helps me create a lasting relationship. In that regard, Cloe’s core message makes a lot of sense to me. I thank Cloe very much for her post.
Nowadays, companies are living in a highly competitive environment so they need to communicate by every ways. Communication and marketing are the pillars of a company; it is important to be present on internet via a website with a good rank on Google, but we know that not all clients use the internet so it is important to build a communication strategy that does not include the internet, using other mediums such as signs.
After internet, one of the most efficient ways are outdoor signs because many people can see them; they represent your company through words, graphics or symbols and can increase your sales by enticing impulsive shoppers. It is important to choose materials, letterings and colours appropriate to the area in general. Never forget that an outdoor signage identifies, reflects your business and creates an atmosphere that customers can imagine just by looking at it. Signs give a personal identity to the business and it brings a lot for the brand image if it is well done.
People are interested in discovering, touching and seeing new things, colours, even smells. Nowadays many shops are using different fragrances to make people get into their shop; the most famous example is with bakeries which diffuse croissant or bread smell to make people want to buy some and get in the shop; a French electronic devices shop diffuses coffee fragrance to sell their coffee machines and fresh/clean fragrance to sell washing machines!
To draw clients’ attention, many companies choose fabricated letters or a digital print on a pylon signage near their buildings for their outdoor signs; it is a simple way to project your brand that stays in peoples’ minds. On this picture we can see the perfect example with Coca-Cola outdoor signage in Sydney’s Western Suburbs.

Other companies prefer to advertise on their brand image with unusual outdoor signs like on this picture with a glass bottle of Schweppes which brings out water of a Belgium fountain. Thanks to this kind of signage you can create a relationship with customers who will think that it is beautiful, funny or original. Next time a client will see or buy a Schweppes bottle, he will think about this sign and this will reinforce the relationship between the brand and its customer.

Today, business is like a jungle so you have to use many methods to stand out from the competition.
Clients need to be reassured and impressed by your front door and that is why your signage quality is very important in customers’ eyes; they require originality so you need to find ways to seduce and captivate them. Any signage is important, it represents your company and if it makes laugh people for example it can help you to create a sympathy relationship with them and increase your notoriety and brand image.
The most important thing to remember is: communication is not only on internet, on paper or on the phone, just open your eyes and you will find more original ways to communicate.
